Brain Mine lasts forever,

a heritage for generations.

Wisdom like a spring,

its flow never ends.

Brain Mine” (BM) refers to the wisdom and innovative energy stored within the human brain. It represents the fusion of knowledge, skills, lifelong learning, and problem-solving abilities, becoming the driving force behind personal and societal progress. It symbolizes the transformation of internal cognitive resources into tangible, real-world outcomes—precious and indispensable like rare mineral deposits.

On a road trip from California to Las Vegas, we passed through the town of Bodie, once a prosperous mining town due to its abundant gold resources. But as the mines were depleted and extraction costs rose, the mining industry collapsed, the economy withered, and the town eventually became a ghost town.

Yet, the “Brain Mine” is fundamentally different from gold, tungsten, or diamond mines. Possessing a Brain Mine allows one to turn any desert into an oasis, wherever they go.

The “Brain Mine” I advocate is a metaphorical concept. It refers to the mental memory systems that enhance cognitive functions. Unlike material mineral resources, the Brain Mine emphasizes the brain’s internal mineral balance and energy supply, which are fundamental to proper neural activity and information transmission. These can enhance mental power and thinking capacity.

The uniqueness of the “Brain Mine” lies not only in its material support, but also in its role in electrolytic activity and neural transmission, involving trace minerals in the brain. Thus, it is likened to the power that turns deserts into oases—reviving barren mental landscapes with vitality and energy. In particular, young people in their growth years can, through disciplined self-cultivation, gain a lifetime of inexhaustible treasures from their Brain Mine.

In essence, the “Brain Mine”is not a conventional resource. Rather, it is a metaphor for the lifelong accumulation of micronutrients, insights, and structured knowledge through continuous learning. These resources are stored in the brain and can be accessed and applied to generate deep, lasting impact.

In 1974, when Mr. Chiang Ching-Kuo visited the precision factory I founded—Cheng Kuang Precision Industrial Co., Ltd.—he called me "Father of Precision Industry in Taiwan," and gifted me with the calligraphy "Using Resources to Enrich the People," in recognition of how I used what I had to benefit society.

The story began in 1962, when I was nine years old, and found that my family of nine relied solely on “my grandmother cutting paper with a pair ofscissors” to survive. I wanted to help, but only ended up creating a mess of useless paper. Clearly, paper-cutting required artistic talent, which I lacked. However, tools like pliers, hammers, files, and sharpening stones—those requiring no artistic gift—I could master. Through rigorous self-training, I could independently craft precision progressive dies by age 12 in 1965, and assemble fully mechanical auto-punch presses, build auto-feeding devices, and manufacture fine components—my early form of “Brain Mine.”

In November 1965, I arrived in Kaohsiung from Tainan with nothing, and built a small windowless workshop using sugarcane boards behind No. 16 Chong-Hsing Street. I named it "Cheng Kuang Metal Works." By December 1966, my handcrafted "super-fine eyelets" helped Avnet Inc., a major American electronics distributor, secure NASA orders, and supported the early success of the Kaohsiung Export Processing Zone (KEPZ). Afterwards, I read at least one book every day for decades.

By 1972, I brought my Brain Mine to the barren lands of Yong Kang, establishing the world’s most efficient supply chain. In 1979, shortly after arriving in New York, I completed the development of "satellite receivers," contributing a instrumental solution to Reaganomics.

In 1982, following a devastating coup by my own family members over property, I once again began from scratch in Taipei, training others using only the Brain Mine. This sparked a flourishing of “precision manufacturing” across the southern of Taiwan.

On May 20, 1984, I revived a dying "Barbie doll" product in just one day. The reward of Mattel Inc. was by taking my gifts to Mainland China, whereupon China quickly became the world’s top toy producer.

In 1985, my wife Linda Din observed the failure of Taiwan’s industrial transformation. She proposed a Social Responsibility Investment (SRI) initiative and invented a cashless system for taxi drivers to earn money without handling cash. With only the "Brain Mine," I helped her realize that philanthropic dream.

Linda later envisioned a complete “TES” system—comprised of Cashless, VAM, eStore, and TSCM—to create massive job opportunities and solve structural social problems. Once again, using only my "Brain Mine," I turned her vision into reality, helping her, from APEC 1997 through 2009, push TES into becoming a global model for e-commerce legislation, micro business, ICT, IPR, satellite support, and rebuilding the global economy.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, cashless transactions hit USD 36 trillion, and by 2024, VAM (virtual asset management) transactions alone reached USD 28 trillion—testaments to the incredible power of the "Brain Mine."

The "Brain Mine" I promote is more than a tool or a technique; it is an integrated energy source made of wisdom, innovation, technical expertise, and perseverance. This energy enables individuals to find solutions amidst challenges, bringing capabilities that transcend fields—from precision manufacturing to e-commerce and social investment—and shaping the global economic structure through its exceptional impact and sustained value creation.

To help more people understand the essence and value of the Brain Mine, we can explore and deepen this invaluable concept through five key dimensions:

1. Definition and Core Concept:

The Brain Mine symbolizes the intelligence, creativity, and technical expertise within the human mind—an internal force that drives both personal and societal advancement. It’s not just the accumulation of knowledge, but the ability to transform that knowledge into real outcomes, making it as indispensable as a rare resource.

2. Journey and Practice:

From self-taught precision engineering in childhood, escaping poverty, founding Cheng Kuang Precision Company, to pioneering e-commerce and SRI—the Brain Mine represents the spirit of continuous learning, innovation, and problem-solving. This journey shows how the Brain Mine unleashes vast energy in diverse fields and brings about real change.

3. Spirit and Values:

The Brain Mine emphasizes tenacity, systems-thinking, and a mission to serve society. This spiritual power turns personal intellect into a societal asset, fueling development and progress.

4. Global Perspective and Impact:

The Brain Mine’s influence transcends borders and industries—from Taiwan to the U.S., from manufacturing to digital commerce, and even to reshaping the global economy. It proves how intelligence and innovation can change the world.

5. Legacy and Inspiration:

The Brain Mine represents the enduring power of knowledge and its generational transmission. Through education and communication, its principles can be passed on, inspiring others to tap into their own mines of wisdom, innovate endlessly, and achieve collective prosperity.

In conclusion, the Brain Mine is a symbol of intellect and innovation, a fusion of practice and spirit. It guides us to transform internal wisdom into purposeful action, driving technological advancement and societal progress. It empowers each person to continuously explore, learn, and create—passing on this force through generations to shine eternally.

The Core Sources of the Brain Mine’s Immense Power

1. The Fusion of Wisdom and Innovation: During one’s formative years, choosing skills that align with one’s innate strengths allows for mastery and spontaneous creativity. Building upon this foundation, one continuously innovates—merging traditional tools with modern craftsmanship—to create high-precision products and systems. This fusion of accumulated wisdom and innovative thinking lies at the heart of the Brain Mine.

2. The Spirit of Lifelong Learning and Self-Discipline: From early self-challenges, to independently crafting complex toolings, and eventually advancing into e-commerce and cashless payment systems—each step reflects a journey of persistent learning, adaptation, and breakthrough. This ever-evolving motivation is the driving force of the Brain Mine.

3. Systems Thinking and Integration Capability: Rather than mastering only a single technique, the Brain Mine encompasses the ability to integrate multiple domains—such as precision manufacturing, e-commerce, and socially responsible investment—into a complete ecosystem, like the Global Channel-TES system. This macro-level integration exponentially enhances its power.

4. Problem-Solving in the Real World: Compassion is the starting point of the Brain Mine. From trying to ease the burden of grandmother, to reviving Barbie dolls, to inventing the cashless system—these are manifestations of wisdom in action. The Brain Mine excels in turning theory into tangible outcomes that bring real-world impact.

5. Resilience and Mission-Driven Spirit: Despite facing familial betrayal and cartels’ hardship, the pursuit of advancing precision industry and e-commerce in Taiwan never wavered—turn the self-seeking into universal concern. This deep sense of mission and responsibility fuels the Brain Mine with an enduring spiritual force.

6. Cross-Disciplinary Vision and Global Reach: The Brain Mine is not limited to Taiwan’s precision industry—it has impacted the U.S. communications sector, revitalized the global toy industry, and transformed global e-commerce and cashless transaction systems. This global vision allows the Brain Mine’s power to extend across borders and industries as a social philosophy.

In short, the immense energy of the Brain Mine stems from universal concern--compassion, enriched by accumulated wisdom, practical innovation, resilient spirit, systemic integration, and problem-solving resolve. It is not merely a symbol of technical skill or tools—but a crystallization of personal experience, values, and purpose. This energy transforms the impossible into the possible, turning barren deserts into fertile oases, and creates lasting, profound impact.

Brain Mine: The Inner Reservoir of Wisdom and Creativity

The "Brain Mine" is an intrinsic reservoir of wisdom and a source of creativity, empowering individuals and teams to transform ideas into tangible outcomes. It is a key driving force behind miraculous turnarounds and social progress.

Specifically, the "Brain Mine" stems from a strong sense of mission and responsibility. It involves mastering a particular craft, engaging in continuous learning and self-discipline, and achieving the ability to translate abstract ideas into concrete results through the alignment of mind and action. It allows one to leverage knowledge, creative thinking, and system integration to combine cross-disciplinary expertise and resources to develop new technologies and methodologies to solve real-world problems. Even in the face of harsh challenges, one maintains confidence and determination, never giving up, and persistently advancing toward mission goals.

To effectively respond to social issues, we launched "Social Responsibility Investment" (SRI). In 1986, we invented "The eStore System" (TES) to address unemployment. To prevent taxi drivers from being robbed, we adopted a contactless "Cashless" TranSmart chip card. To demonstrate its transaction capability, we integrated the functions of a "vending machine + ATM + mobile communicator," inventing "VAM" (Smart Vending machine with Virtual Asset Management). We also developed the large-scale "TSCM" (Transaction & Transmission Supply Chain Management) software and conducted long-range testing in both Taiwan and Silicon Valley.

Linda Din, the inventor of the eCommerce system, served as a speaker at APEC 1998. Her proposal based on TES led to the adoption of the eCommerce bill. APEC then promoted ICT in 2000, and during her speech at APEC 2003, she proposed the "Global Channel-TES," which helped usher in the era of cashless transactions. The TSCM system that powered VAM and the eStore was formally documented by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs under the title “Development of a Supply Chain Management Information System for the Electronic Shopping System” in the R&D Result Report Compilation for Supporting SMEs (1998–2000) Taipower Version—making it one of the earliest records in contactless digital economy history.

Our U.S. patents have been cited by multiple global corporations including Disney, IBM, LG, Panasonic, VISA, and Walmart to improve their revenue—for example, VISA alone generated USD 275 billion last year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, cashless transactions reached USD 36 trillion, and in 2024, VAM-related transactions alone reached USD 28 trillion—it will continue to grow every year. With just USD 70 million self-fund in development costs, we generated an astronomical output—clearly demonstrating the limitless power of the "Brain Mine."

I recall in 1986 visiting Minister of the Council for Economic Planning and Development, Mr. Chao Yao-Tung. He was deeply concerned about Taiwan's failed industrial transformation. Although he recognized the value of our “contactless semiconductor” invention, he sighed and said, “The government has no money.” At the Industrial Technology Research Institute, a certain gentleman even laughed and said, “Contactless semiconductors? You won’t make those even in 50 years!” Yet with unwavering faith, we persevered, and within just 11 years, we brought the results to APEC. This eventually catalyzed E-Commerce, ICT, and cashless industries across the globe—creating hundreds of millions of jobs and benefiting humanity. Again, this proves that the energy of the "Brain Mine" is truly inexhaustible.

In June 2025, the U.S. Congress passed the GENIUS Act. In response, we plan to allocate 0.1% of the USD 36 trillion in cashless transaction infringement compensation as a reserve asset, and issue USD 36 billion in intellectual property (IP) to support the "IIA-TES" initiative in the United States—aiming to build 2 million eStores and create 2 million job opportunities, thus fulfilling the mission of social responsibility investment.

In conclusion, the "Brain Mine" is a symbolic yet indispensable concept. It refers to the wisdom, innovation, technical expertise, problem-solving mindset, and the enduring spirit of continuous learning and self-discipline that reside in the human brain. More than just a collection of knowledge and skills, it is the inner driving force that transforms those resources into real-world outcomes and enduring value.

Peter Li-Chang Kuo, the author created Taiwan's Precision Industry in his early years. Peter was a representative of the APEC CEO Summit and an expert in the third sector. He advocated "anti-corruption (AC)/cashless/e-commerce (E-Com)/ICT/IPR/IIA-TES / Micro-Business (MB)…and etc." to win the international bills and regulations.
